2. Structures Grouped by Underlying
INTU — 1 Long @ 2028-01-21 + 1 Short @ 2028-01-21
- Long LEAP ($6,230 ITM) with a short call on the same 2028-01-21 expiry.
- Net: flat (1L / 1S). Resembles a diagonal / poor-man's covered call — long deep-ITM LEAP collared by a short call that collects premium; upside above the short strike is capped, downside to the long strike is cushioned.
AMZN — 12 Long @ 2028-01-21 + 12 Short @ 2028-01-21 + 1 extra Short @ 2027-01-15
- 12×12 paired LEAPs (long $3,924.94 / short $1,967.63, same 2028-01-21 expiry) net to flat; plus 1 uncovered short at the earlier 2027-01-15 expiry.
- Net: short by 1 contract (12L / 13S). The 12×12 pair is a covered collar / synthetic; the extra short is a naked short call. Largest notional book on the sheet (~$9.3M gross).
NVDA — 5 Long / 5 Short @ 2027-01-15
- 3 long @ $3,339.67 + 2 long @ $3,162.50 against 3 short @ $1,624.67 + 2 short @ $2,797, all same 2027-01-15 expiry.
- Net: flat (5L / 5S). Fully paired same-expiry structure — a vertical / synthetic where the two short legs at different strikes create a spread profile.
GOOGL — 5 Long @ 2027-01-15 + 5 Short @ 2027-01-15
- Long $1,798.17 vs short $983.64, same expiry.
- Net: flat (5L / 5S). A classic same-expiry vertical / synthetic — long-the-more-ITM, short-the-further-OTM.
TSLA — 4 Long / 2 Short @ 2027-01-15
- Longs: 1 @ $8,442 + 3 @ $5,310. Shorts: 1 @ $3,658 + 1 @ $8,300.
- Net: long by 2 contracts (4L / 2S). A mixed long-biased book — deep-ITM long LEAPs and high-strike shorts; two of the longs are unpaired, so it carries genuine upside exposure.
NBIS — 1 Long @ 2027-01-15 + 1 Short @ 2027-01-15
- Long $2,150 vs short $2,575, same expiry.
- Net: flat (1L / 1S). Same-expiry vertical / synthetic.
UUUU — 3 Long (one-sided)
- Long @ $370 and @ $134 (exp 2027-01-15) + @ $270 (exp 2026-10-16).
- Net: long by 3 (no shorts). Pure long LEAP / call exposure; 2026-10-16 leg expires soonest on the whole sheet.
TSLL — 2 Short (one-sided)
- Short @ $200 and @ $130 (both 2027-01-15).
- Net: short by 2 (no longs). Two naked short calls — pure premium-collection with uncapped upside risk.
3. Tax-Focused View
- These are equity options — Section 1256 does NOT apply. No 60/40 split, no mark-to-market for these names. Each position is taxed on gain/loss realized at sale, exercise, assignment, or expiration, characterized as short-term or long-term strictly by holding period (open ≤ 1 yr = ST, > 1 yr = LT).
- Long options held > 1 year qualify for long-term capital gains rates. The long LEAPs below were opened in 2025/2026 and will not cross the 1-year LTCG line before these expiries:
- NBIS long (opened 2025-07-01) — the only position with meaningful age; still short-term until 2026-07-01, already LTCG-eligible now.
- NVDA long (opened 2025-12-09) — becomes LTCG-eligible 2026-12-09.
- Everything else was opened 2026 → short-term unless held past its 1-yr anniversary. Note the Jan expiries:
- 2027-01-15 expiries (AMZN extra short, UUUU, TSLL, NBIS, NVDA, TSLA, GOOGL) — opened 2026, so ST unless held past 2027-01-15 (most will expire or be closed before reaching 1 yr, locking in ST treatment).
- 2028-01-21 LEAPs (INTU, AMZN 12×12) — a long LEAP held into 2028-01-21 is clearly long-term (> 1 yr). The short legs are not held for LTCG; short option premium is realized/figured when the position closes and is usually short-term by nature.
- Short options are generally *not* held for long-term treatment — their gain/loss is realized at close/expiration/assignment, and the holding-period clock resets on replacement (wash-sale risk). Because all of these opened in 2026, the default outcome for the *short* legs and for most 2027-01-15 expiries is short-term gain/loss, which nets against ordinary-rate income with no LTCG benefit.
4. Concrete Options-Specific Recommendations
- Prepare the 2026-10-16 UUUU long (expires first). This is the earliest expiry on the whole sheet. Decide before October whether to close, roll, or let it expire — do not let an ITM long expire into exercise without the cash to take delivery of UUUU shares.
- Watch the AMZN & NVDA net-short / spread posture at the 2027-01-15 and 2028-01-21 boundaries. AMZN is net short 1 (12L/13S) with the extra short riding the earlier 2027-01-15 expiry — that naked short caps upside and carries assignment risk into expiry. NVDA is fully net-flat (5L/5S) but the paired shorts at $1,624.67 and $2,797 mean any rally above ~$28/share on NVDA is capped; avoid letting these expire in-the-money expecting shares.
- Let paired long+short structures decay together to avoid accidental assignment. Where a long and short share an expiry (AMZN 12×12 @ 2028-01-21, NVDA 5/5, GOOGL 5/5, NBIS 1/1, INTU 1/1), manage the pair as one unit. If you close only the short long-dated leg and leave the long to run, an in-the-money short call can be assigned early, delivering naked short stock into a book you thought was covered. Close or roll both legs in tandem, or monitor for pin-risk near expiry.
- Do not harvest option losses if it triggers a wash sale or nets against paired longs. These structures are full of pairs (AMZN 12×12, NVDA 5/5, GOOGL 5/5, INTU, NBIS). Realizing a loss on a short leg of a spread and immediately re-establishing an equivalent option within 30 days, or realizing a loss on a long leg while its paired short is still on, can create wash-sale disallowal or offset gains you'd rather recognize long-term on the paired long LEAP. Let the paired legs close naturally together where possible, and time any loss-harvest so it does not straddle the paired long's LTCG eligibility (e.g., the NVDA long that turns LTCG on 2026-12-09).
Options at a Glance
22 contracts, ~$16.6M gross notional, 8 underlyings — a largely net-flat, paired-LERP book (AMZN, NVDA, GOOGL, INTU, NBIS all paired; NVDA fully net-flat) with one-sided wings on UUUU (net long 3), TSLA (net long 2), and TSLL (net short 2), and an incidental net-short on AMZN (12L/13S) — all equity options, no 1256 treatment, most positions short-term unless their 2028 LEAPs are held past the 1-yr mark.
