Positions with prices in scope: CRWV 87.83 · TSLL 9.78 · HOOD 108.14 · NBIS 219.06 · AMZN 258.65 · NVDA 214.76 · TSLA 362.88 · VG 14.21 · UI 559.00

⚠️ Informational only — NOT tax advice. This document is a planning aid generated from current per-lot cost-basis data. Tax rules (wash-sale, ST/LT holding periods, the $3k income offset cap, state taxes, AMT) are complex and fact-specific. Confirm every lot, price, and holding period with your broker's year-end statement and a licensed tax advisor before executing. Figures are computed from the actual lot data in data/equity_tax_lots.json at the reference prices above; real fills will differ.

Harvestable losses (the candidates): CRWV fully (-5,752.99) + TSLL losing lots (-9,108.07 as selected in §2). Total ≈ -$14,861 of net realized loss available.

1. Ranked Tax-Loss-Harvest Candidates

Ranked by $ harvestable, favoring short-term (ST) losses first — ST losses offset ST gains first and are more valuable (ST gains would otherwise be taxed at ordinary rates), so harvesting ST losses should take priority:

  1. CRWV — sell entirely: -$5,752.99 (100% short-term) — a clean, all-ST, all-loss position. Highest-value harvest.
  2. TSLL — sell the losing lots: -$9,108.07 net (partly ST, mostly LT) — the largest total-dollar harvest, but it is a *partial* harvest (keep the gain lots); see §2.
  3. *(Not recommended)* TSLA -23.14, UI -11.64, VG -32.71 — too small to justify the effort and wash-sale risk. Skip.

1a. CRWV — EXACT lots to sell (liquidate the entire position)

⚠️ WASH-SALE CAUTION (applies to both CRWV and TSLL): These are *highly volatile* positions (TSLL is a 2x leveraged TSLA ETF). If you sell these lots and then buy the same (or a "substantially identical") security within 30 days before or after the sale, the loss is disallowed and added to the new lot's basis. Do NOT rebuy CRWV or TSLL for at least 30 days after selling (and be careful of any dividend- or auto-reinvest feature). To keep exposure, you may use a *different, non-substantially-identical* proxy (e.g. TSLA directly instead of TSLL) — but confirm with your advisor, as leveraged-ETF wash-sale rules have nuances.

2. TSLL Partial-Harvest Recommendation

TSLL holds both losing and winning lots. Sell only the losers, keep the winners — this banks ~$9.1k of loss while retaining ~$4.2k of unrealized gain for future years.

  • Sell (losing ST + LT lots, 3,030 shares total): realized net loss = -$9,108.07 (-960.50 ST + -8,147.57 LT, per the lot tables in §1b).
  • Keep (8 gain lots, 2,870 shares): retained unrealized gain = +$4,220.10.

Retained gain lots (DO NOT sell):

QtyCost/shareOpen dateTermGain @ 9.78
10008.602026-07-23ST+1,180.00
9007.842025-03-10LT+1,746.00

206.652025-04-21LT+62.60
2,870———+4,220.10

Net effect after selling losers + keeping winners: realized -9,108.07 on the sold lots; +4,220.10 stays unrealized (deferred). Net realized across TSLL = -9,108.07.

3. Profit-Taking (Harvesting Gains) & Offsetting with the Losses

You carry large unrealized long-term gains in HOOD (+$82,745 LT) and a sizable gain in NBIS (+$11,498 ST / +$2,292 LT, ≈ $13,790 net).

Recommended trim (suggested notionals):

  • HOOD: trim ~100–200 shares of low-cost LT lots (e.g. ~100 sh @ 19.59 ≈ +$8,855, or the ~60 sh @ 8.50 ≈ +$5,978), realizing roughly $10,000–$20,000 of LT gain.
  • NBIS: trim ~$10,000 of notional from the ST gain lots (e.g. the 60 sh @ 90.16 ≈ +$7,734 ST, plus a couple of smaller ST gain lots) to raise a short-term gain that the ST losses offset 1:1.

How the harvested losses offset the gains 1:1:

Net realized losses available from §1–2: CRWV -5,752.99 + TSLL -9,108.07 = -$14,861.06 total net loss. These offset realized gains dollar-for-dollar on Schedule D:

  • Every $1 of harvested loss cancels $1 of realized gain — no tax owed on the offset portion.
  • Bucket matching matters: ST losses first offset ST gains, then LT gains; LT losses offset LT gains first. That is why we prioritize CRWV's ST loss (it zeroes out NBIS's ST gain) and let TSLL's LT loss offset HOOD's LT gain.
  • Example allocation of the ~$14.9k of losses:

- → offset ~$13.8k–$14.9k of the NBIS + HOOD trims → those gains become tax-free (net $0 on the covered portion).
- Any losses not used against gains (up to $3,000/yr) can reduce ordinary income — at a ~24–32% combined marginal rate, the unused $3k is worth ~$720–$960/yr in direct tax savings.

  • High-level realistic assumptions (ordinary income ~24–32%, federal LTCG 15% in this bracket; ignoring NIIT/state for simplicity): if you *didn't* harvest and instead realized e.g. $14.9k of gain with no loss to offset it, that gain would cost roughly $2,200–$4,800 (ST portion at ordinary rates) or ~$2,235 (all-LT at 15%). By pairing the harvest with the trim, the offset portion owes $0 on the covered gains.
Bottom line for §3: Sell the CRWV + losing-TSLL lots (bank ~$14.9k loss) and in the same tax year trim $10–20k of HOOD/NBIS gains; the losses offset those gains 1:1, so the covered gain is tax-free, and up to $3k more can be applied to ordinary income. (Discussion only — confirm rates with a tax professional.)

4. Do NOT Do List

  1. Do NOT rebuy CRWV or TSLL within 30 days (before or after the sale). That triggers a wash sale and disallows the loss. This is the single most likely way to break this plan — these are volatile tickers you may be tempted to re-enter.
  2. Do NOT let a reinvestment/dividend/DRIP auto-buy fire during the 30-day window on either harvested ticker — even a tiny auto-purchase can wash a big loss.
  3. Do NOT harvest the tiny losses (TSLA -23, VG -33, UI -12). The effort, execution risk, and wash-sale exposure aren't worth ~$70 of combined loss. Leave them.
  4. Do NOT realize large LT gains (e.g. a big HOOD trim) if you are not also realizing the losses in the same year — an un-offset LTCG would be taxed at 15% with nothing to cancel it. Only trim HOOD/NBIS alongside the harvest in the same tax year.
  5. Do NOT buy a "substantially identical" proxy of CRWV/TSLL inside the wash window thinking it is a loophole — the IRS can disallow it. Use a clearly different security, or simply wait 31 days.
  6. Do NOT treat this as a directional signal on TSLL/TSLA. This is a *tax* maneuver on a leveraged ETF; the position's fundamental risk (2x daily leverage) is unchanged.
  7. Do NOT sell HOOD/NBIS gain lots whose holding period is about to cross to LT unless the numbers favor it — a few days' wait can cut a 15%+ rate difference in your favor. Check dates before trimming.
  8. Do NOT harvest into a position you would re-enter at a worse price for tax reasons alone — if you truly believe in CRWV/TSLL, the 30-day wait (or a clearly non-identical substitute) is the disciplined path.

Your advisor at a glance

Harvest ~$14.9k of losses now (sell all CRWV for -$5,753 ST + sell TSLL's losing lots for -$9,108), do NOT rebuy either for 30 days, then trim ~$10–20k of HOOD/NBIS gains in the same year so the losses offset them 1:1 to $0 tax — keep TSLL's +$4.2k gain lots and all untrimmed HOOD/NBIS shares deferred, and leave the tiny (<$100) losses alone.
